Section 8- Solace for Democrats

Are you a Democrat or a "lefty" who cringes at the thought
of voting for a Republican?
Well, you're in good company, and this section is for you. Please keep in mind that you will most likely NEVER find a candidate who agrees with you on every issue.

Start with this video:

Isn't Ron Paul pro-life?

Yes. Paul is an OB doctor (hence "Dr. Paul") who has delivered over 4000 babies,
so he is in a unique position to comment on this issue.

He doesn't like the idea of abortion; but thinks that the federal government
has no authority to make a decision on the matter.

For my part (and many Paul supporters will agree with me), I am strongly pro-choice. I understand and am even sympathetic to the case made my pro-lifers, but I think they're wrong about that issue. Luckily, Paul is right about so many other important issues that I don't mind voting for him.

There is a large group out there who are willing to completely discount Paul because of his position on abortion. But these people are no better than the idiots who voted for Bush simply because he is pro-life.

Why isn't Paul more concerned about global warming?

Click here and here for Paul's statement on the issue.

Here is another quote from Paul:
"Global temperatures have been warming since the Little Ice Age. Studies within the respectable scientific community have shown that human beings are most likely a part of this process. As a Congressman, I've done a number of things to support environmentally friendly policies. I have been active in the Green Scissors campaign to cut environmentally harmful spending, I've opposed foreign wars for oil, and I've spoken out against government programs that encourage development in environmentally sensitive areas, such as flood insurance."

and another:
"...what are you going to do, invade China so they don't pollute? ... But that doesn't mean that you shouldn't do what we can to slow up the emissions and stop subsidizing big oil companies. I don't like subsidizing oil companies. They've been doing that for years. We go to war to protect oil, so that we can buy more oil, and burn more oil. So I say our foreign policy contributes to global warming -- by subsidizing a policy that is deeply flawed. And that's why we're in the Middle East, to protect oil interests."

and another:
"I strongly oppose the Kyoto treaty. Providing for a clean environment is an excellent goal, but the Kyoto treaty doesn't do that. Instead it's placed the burden on the United States to cut emissions while not requiring China - the world's biggest polluter - an other polluting third-world countries to do a thing. Also, the regulations are harmful for American workers, because it encourages corporations to move their business overseas to countries where the regulations don't apply. It's bad science, it's bad policy, and it's bad for America. I am more than willing to work cooperatively with other nations to come up with policies that will safeguard the environment, but I oppose all nonbinding resolutions that place an unnecessary burden on the United States [in favor of other countries]."

And click here for another way Paul will help global warming.

Unfortunately, the people who are in power now would never do what it takes to solve the problem, and Paul is right to be skeptical of their efforts. The other candidates give this issue a lot of lip service, but they are devoid of good solutions as well.

If you really want to do something about global warming, let's end the Iraq War, close down our bases, and put a few weapons factories out of business. We could cut off subsidies to oil companies, too. Think of the energy savings! How much energy would we save if we shut down the IRS and other redundant and wasteful federal agencies?

Doesn't Paul want us to withdraw from the U.N.?

Yes.

The United Nations is a valuable forum that makes it possible for world leaders to convene, discuss, air grievances, and to address issues that are of global concern. What bothers Paul about the U.N. is that many politicians in America seem to think that the U.N. trumps U.S. sovereignty. The U.N. shouldn't have the power to tell a government whether they can or must go to war or anything else. There's nothing wrong with making suggestions and resolutions, but they don't have the power to dictate or enforce anything like that. The U.N. shouldn't have the power to tax. If a group of nation-states wants to get together and cooperate on some project, that's their right, but our Constitution doesn't allow us to cede power to a world government.

Plus, the U.N. has a huge, wasteful bureaucracy and is very expensive for taxpayers.

This is another project Paul probably wouldn't get to after everything else.

Doesn't Paul want to dismantle federal agencies like the Department of Education, the Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration?

Yes! Check out what the good doctor has to say on his website about these giant agencies:

Food and Drug Aministration

Department of Education

Read about some of the problems with the Department of Agriculture here and here.

Paul discusses his opposition to the Departments of Energy; Health and Human Services; and Commerce here.

Doesn't Paul support privatized health care?

Yes.

I heard Ron Paul is a racist. Is that true?

NO! RON PAUL IS NOT A RACIST!

I heard Ron Paul is an anti-semite. Is that true?

NO! RON PAUL IS NOT A RACIST!

Paul is the only candidate who isn't afraid to criticize the policies of Israel and U.S. policy toward Israel,
but this does not make him an anti-semite.

I heard Ron Paul is a homophobe. Is that true?

No! Paul thinks that homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else.

He also thinks that government (the federal government in particular) has no authority to get involved in marriage.
